The Playing Field is dedicated to breaking the barriers faced by low-income families in accessing high-quality early care and education.
Cost – For families who rely on child care subsidies, most high-quality programs are far out of reach. The parent portion of the payment would simply be too high. We assure no family is turned away because of an inability to pay.
Transportation – Through a partnership with Early Head Start, our midtown location offers transportation within the city limits of Madison.
High Rates of Suspension and Expulsion – Two hundred and fifty preschool-aged children are suspended or expelled every day with boys of color being disproportionately impacted. We provide inclusive environments with highly skilled teachers who can support children in learning new skills.
The Playing Field believes all children deserve the highest level of early education and care. We transport children experiencing homelessness and serve them in the context of our School Family, right alongside children from far more advantaged families.
The Playing Field offers the highest level of early care and education to children from varied socio-economic backgrounds and is dedicated to breaking the barriers faced by low-income families in accessing high-quality early care and education alongside children from more advantaged backgrounds. Segregation exists within our nation’s child care centers. High quality early education programs are out of reach for many families. Even with subsidized child care, the rates at many centers are simply too high for struggling families. Children most in need of quality early education are not able to access it. We seek to care for children in the context of our diverse community and see this as a beginning step towards minimizing the disparity between our youngest citizens.
