Through engaging in simulations of everyday activities children develop skills to foster independence while also learning the healthy habits of sharing space, working materials, solving problems, taking constructive criticism and giving compliments in positive ways.
Dr. Montessori believed children, if guided to the full realization of their potential, held the power to ultimately regenerate humanity. She called this potential the “secret of childhood” and envisioned a future crafted by adults who had unlocked this secret and guided society to a way of being where humanity’s mission would be to know, love, and serve.
She developed a process of education that is attuned to the child’s inner drives, promotes the beneficial interaction of the child and his surroundings, and that leads to the child’s mastery of himself and his environment.
She believed, and it has been proven, that this process can develop children who are confident, competent, self-disciplined, spiritually strong, and thus, able to work cooperatively for the benefit of society. She believed that such children would lead to the creation of a better world. We, who share her vision, believe that its realization is more vital today than ever before.
