Established in 1969, Tiny Tots Development Center (TTDC) provides childcare services, preschool, and early childhood education in a nurturing environment. Tiny Tots was founded by Mrs. Helen Hicks who opened the center to fill a need in her community. The children in her neighborhood were lacking in quality care while their parents worked. Two-income households were commonplace in the black community long before the nation as a whole due to the struggle to make ends meet. Despite this, there were no established methods of caring for the children while both parents worked. Helen herself struggled with finding care for her children. She arranged care on a day-by-day basis determining who would watch her children based on who in her family or community was available to watch them. There was no consistency in the lives of her children, so she decided to provide it for them and for some of the other children in her community by opening a childcare center in her home.

Curriculum

Our program operates on the following ideas: • Children are conceived and born with the capacity to learn. • Primary Brain development occurs in the first three years • Families are a child’s first teachers. • A child achieves and retains knowledge through concrete experiences, play and social activities. • Children learn to develop positive feelings about themselves and the skills to function in school and society by improving their ability to interact effectively with others.

Very short and quick tour. They're preparing to move to another building, so I don't think there was much to see since they won't be using it much longer.
