About us
What Makes Our Program Unique. Bayview Intergenerational Children’s Center offers a unique opportunity for interaction with people of many generations because residents of Bayview, one of Seattle’s finest Life Plan Communities, have chosen to share their home with children. The Children’s Center is located in the Terrace Building’s Queen Anne Drive Way entrance, offering a special climate of warmth, caring, laughter, respect, and learning for children both young and old. From infants through preschoolers, children receive unique enrichment as they enjoy interacting with “Grandmas and Grandpas” throughout the Bayview Community. Our center was designed by an architect to be child-centered and child-sized, from the bathroom fixtures to the classroom shelves. We have a spacious indoor playground that includes a loft, a climber and room to run. We have access to Bayview’s amenities and have an outdoor playground. A unique aspect to life at Bayview is the interaction between children and older adults. The goal of intergenerational interaction is for all generations to feel the support, concern, interest and caring of others; to increase meaningful and beneficial contact between generations, and to provide opportunities for older adults to share language, heritage and culture. Curriculum that fosters positive attitudes towards age, disability, and older adults is integrated into the life of this center.
Curriculum
Educational philosophy. The word educate means to “draw out.” In a developmentally appropriate program, curriculum flows from the individual interests, abilities and needs of the children in accordance with their developmental stages and inclinations. We find that we can create in children a positive disposition towards learning by fostering an emergent curriculum, one that arises out of the children’s interests and responses to the prepared classroom environment and experiences.

Fun space, with kind of an indoor jungle gym, and a couple outdoor areas for play. Operated by a retirement community, and there is weekly interaction between the kids and the elder residents, plus other special events. This is rare in Seattle and we love it. The director Trudy has a Montessori background and is very thoughtful, thorough, kind, and professional.
